Who we are
J Alert is operated by Andy j weather man. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this notice — we decide what data is collected and why. Contact us at alerts@jalert.dev.
What we collect and why
- ZIP code — to target radar alerts, warning calls and briefings to your area. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
- Name, email address and optional mobile number — to send J Alert warning emails and personal text updates you sign up for. Legal basis: contract and consent.
- Push notification registration data (browser push endpoint and keys, device/user-agent string) — to deliver alert and briefing notifications to your phone. Legal basis: contract.
- Account credentials (email, authentication identifiers) for J Alert Pro members — to create and secure your account. Legal basis: contract.
- Subscription records (plan, status, billing period, payment reference) — to give paying members access to Pro features. Legal basis: contract.
- Delivery and usage logs (which notifications were sent, delivered or failed, IP address, error diagnostics) — to make sure alerts actually arrive and to prevent abuse. Legal basis: legitimate interests in a reliable, secure service.
- Support messages you send us — to answer you. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
We do not sell your personal data and we do not use it for advertising profiling.
Who we share it with
- Service providers / subprocessors — hosting, database, email delivery and push notification services that operate the app on our behalf.
- Paddle, our Merchant of Record, for the sale of J Alert Pro, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing. Paddle collects your payment details directly; we never see or store your full card number.
- Professional advisers (legal, accounting) where necessary.
- Authorities where we are required to disclose by law.
How long we keep it
We keep subscriber and account records for as long as your sign-up or account is active, and delete or anonymise them within a reasonable period after you unsubscribe, delete your account, or the data is no longer needed. Notification delivery logs are kept for operational review and then removed. Billing records may be retained longer where tax law requires it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, receive a portable copy, withdraw consent, and complain to your data protection authority. To exercise any of these, email alerts@jalert.dev and we will respond within one month.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections, access controls, and database rules that restrict each account to its own records.
Cookies and local storage
J Alert uses only essential storage: a sign-in session token for members and local storage of your ZIP code, sound preference and notification read state on your own device. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Paddle may set essential cookies during checkout. You can clear this data at any time in your browser settings.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in the United States. Where data is transferred from the UK or EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
